There is an entirely new section to Roam that covers a lot of territory. The
‘Front Desk’ has 3 functions: To check people in, check people out, and ‘walk-
ups’, which is basically a point-of-sale and more. The Front Desk system
requires a touch screen to function properly. It will work without a touch
screen but works much better with.
The check-in function is used to record when a reservation has arrived, print
invoices, take payments, assign lodging units, and setup accounts.
The check-out function is used to record when a reservation departs, view all
outstanding amounts owing (on the reservation and any accounts associated with a reservation), and to take a payment.
The ‘walk-ups’ is mainly a retail POS system, but instead of just store items
any Roam item (other than packages) can be sold. You can also sell gift
certificates, make reservation payments, and make account payments. These can
be done separately or as part of a retail sale.
Credit card payments will work with a card swiper, and retail items can be
entered with a barcode scanner. Receipt printers will work well for payment and
sale receipts.
If you try this out, make sure to complete the config page beforehand. And your screen must be capable of 1300×800 pixels. Also, open your browser to full screen.
